John has served as a VR Director of Photography on projects for major brands since 2015. John has worked with pioneering companies such as Jaunt, Strivr, Light Sail VR, Double Eye Studios, and live-stream producers like Six Degrees and Supersphere VR creating immersive content for companies such as Meta, Verizon, Netflix, Google, Walmart, Amazon, NFL Films, Blue Origin, and many others.

Eli Roth’s BE MINE: A VR Valentine’s Slasher

John served as Director of Photography on Be Mine: A VR Valentine's Slasher starring Peyton List, Inanna Sarkis, and Alanna Ubach, written by Eli Roth, and directed by Adam MacDonald. This 30 minute VR film utilized the latest technology including the Sony Venice 2 digital cinema camera with the yet-unreleased Rialto 2 for groundbreaking shots seen throughout the piece. The film was released in February 2023 and is available to watch in Meta Horizon Worlds and Oculus TV.

Eli Roth's Trick VR Treat

For Trick VR Treat starring Vanessa Hudgens, director Eli Roth sought to create an immersive and frightening Halloween experience using a VR 180 frame optimized for Meta's Horizon Worlds release platform in the Oculus Quest 2 and hired John as the Director of Photography for the project. John tested extensively to develop a look that was dark and cinematic while still maintaining a level of detail and the realistic qualities necessary to watch comfortably in a VR Headset. After testing many capable cameras, John opted to shoot on the Sony Venice 2 with a sharp 200 degree Fisheye Lens. Audiences have so far been thrilled by this intense haunted house experience unlike anything released in VR before!

Jacob Collier - Make Me Cry

For this 360 Music Video, John worked alongside director Matt Celia and the team at Light Sail VR to create surreal and magical scenes that held on to a touch of the homespun reality seen in Jacob's earlier work. We show the multi-instrumentalist playing the layers of this dynamic song as the viewer is guided in a circular motion through a seemingly continuous shot in flowing and changing backdrops as we move through the song. Shooting with the 8k Red Digital Cinema Helium camera and ultra-wide lenses allowed us to create a 360 world with high resolution and stunning dynamic range.

GAME OVER, MAN! - 360 VR Experience | Netflix

John worked alongside director Lex Halaby and the marketing team at Netflix to create a unique and immersive advertising experience for the film "Game over, Man." This hilarious experience takes you into the middle of a hotel hostage situation when, instead of taking on the bad guys, our heroes just get high and struggle to do basic tasks while the action happens all around them.

YouTube Rewind 2016 VR Experience

John collaborated with director Lex Halaby and the team at Portal A Entertainment to create this 360 Easter Egg for YouTube Rewind 2016. This 360 experience has been viewed nearly 2 million times on YouTube and adds an immersive experience to the popular YouTube Series.Featuring Marques Brownlee, Meredith Foster, LaurDIY, Alex Wassabi & UnboxTherapy.
